  • PE foam (Polyethylene Foam) for protective packaging

PE foam is an extruded closed cell polyethylene foam that takes packaging and protection to a whole new level. It combines a lightweight structure with shock absorbing performance, protecting your products against bumps, scratches and impacts during transport, storage and assembly.

As a versatile protective packaging material, PE foam is often used to package fragile or high-value items such as glassware, electronics, ceramics and works of art. It is recyclable, non-toxic and moisture resistant, available in custom thicknesses, densities and dimensions, with optional antistatic pink foam and fire retardant (B2) versions for sensitive electronics and regulated environments.

Why choose PE foam?

Compared to traditional packaging materials, PE foam offers a unique combination of weight, durability and reusability. Unlike paper-based inserts, it absorbs repeated impact without losing its protective shape. Unlike rigid foams, it bends with the product instead of cracking under pressure. And unlike bubble wrap alone, polyethylene foam holds up under stacking, vibration and long-haul transport.

For B2B packaging buyers, that translates into fewer transport damages, fewer customer claims, and lower packaging weight per protected unit. Combined with our recycling programme – post-industrial PE foam reprocessed into new PE granulates – it is also a measurable step toward circular packaging targets.

Our product range, adapted to your needs

Abriso Jiffy supplies PE foam in five customisable formats. Each format can be configured with antistatic, fire retardant, perforation, lamination or self-adhesive options to match your packaging or insulation use case.

  • PE Foam Rolls PE foam rolls are the most versatile format in our range. Available in thicknesses from 0.8 mm to 20 mm, widths up to 2.5 m, and densities up to 70 kg/m³, our PE foam roll formats handle production lines, packaging stations and large-volume protective wrapping. Rolls are easy to cut, generate minimal material loss, and can be supplied with tear-off perforation so operators can detach foam sheets at a consistent length. Foam rolls are available with fire retardant (B2) and antistatic pink foam treatments, in different colours, and with macro (5 mm or 8 mm) or micro perforation for breathability and flexibility.

  • PE foam laminates combine the shock-absorbent properties of polyethylene foam with the added benefits of a second material. You choose the lamination: HDPE or LDPE film, an extra PE foam layer, Kraft paper, metallised films or aluminium, anti-tear film, or bubble wrap. Our Abrifoamflex® and Astro Soft® product ranges combine PE foam with bubble for maximum shock and scratch resistance. Radiator foil is another laminated PE foam application, used as a reflective insulation layer behind radiators. Foam laminates are available in different thicknesses, widths and densities, with antistatic pink foam, fire retardant (B2), light or permanent self-adhesive film, and tear-off or micro/macro perforation.

    POSSIBLE LAMINATIONS:

    • HDPE or LDPE film

  • AbriProfiPads® are self-adhesive PE foam pads engineered as a buffer between fragile or sensitive surfaces. The light-adhesive version is ideal as a temporary buffer between glass, natural stone, painted metal or wood. It removes without residue after transport. The permanent self-adhesive version is used as an inlay in cartons to protect electronics, servers, switchboards, TV sets and heavy equipment against impact during transit. Available in standard 2000 x 1200 mm and custom sizes up to 3500 x 1200 mm, AbriProfiPads® combine high resistance foam with a clean adhesive finish. Often paired with our custom-made Abriprofile® packaging profiles.

Sustainable by design — circular PE foam

Our PE foam is engineered for a closed-loop lifecycle. Post-industrial polyethylene foam offcuts are collected, granulated and reprocessed into new PE granulates which then re-enter the extrusion line as raw material for the next generation of foam products. The result: less landfill, fewer virgin-material inputs and a measurable contribution to your circular packaging targets.

This recycling programme underpins our Renew foams range: protective packaging built on certified recycled content, without compromising performance. PE foam is also a recyclable foam at end-of-life, supporting take-back schemes and helping B2B buyers report progress on packaging waste reduction.

PE FOAM

Customise your PE foam

Special objects need special protection. Die-cutting allows us to deliver PE foam sheets and laminates tailored to the exact shape and size of your product, a common request for high-value electronics, instruments and art-handling cases. We also offer multi-layer laminations, adhesive backings and integrated foam profiles for more complex requirements.

When standard PE foam isn’t enough, our engineered technical foam solutions deliver precision-cut inserts with custom densities, hardness profiles and finishes purpose-built for industrial and automotive applications.

Frequently asked questions about PE foam

  • PE foam is an extruded closed cell polyethylene foam used as a lightweight, shock absorbing protective packaging material. Also called polyethylene foam or expanded polyethylene foam (EPE), it is recyclable, non-toxic and available in custom densities and thicknesses, including antistatic pink foam and fire retardant (B2) versions.

  • PE foam is a solid closed cell polyethylene foam, while bubble wrap uses air-filled bubbles between two plastic films. PE foam offers higher abrasion resistance, custom thicknesses and structural support; bubble wrap is lighter and more economical for void-fill. The two materials are often laminated together (see our foam laminates) for combined protection.

  • Yes. PE foam is 100% recyclable. Abriso Jiffy operates a take-back programme that reprocesses post-industrial PE foam waste into new PE granulates, which are then extruded into new foam products. This closed-loop recycling supports circular packaging goals and reduces landfill impact.

  • Our PE foam rolls are available from 0.8 mm to 20 mm thickness, with widths up to 2.5 m and densities up to 70 kg/m³. Foam sheets, foam bags, foam laminates and AbriProfiPads® are custom-made to your specifications. Talk to our packaging experts to define the right combination for your application.

  • Yes. Food-grade PE foam is available on request. The closed cell, non-toxic, moisture resistant structure makes it suitable for food intermediate layers, trays and protective packaging of glass containers. Specific food-contact certification is provided per project. Talk to our team for the right specification.

  • Antistatic pink foam is a PE foam variant treated to dissipate electrostatic charges. The pink colour is the industry-standard visual identifier. It protects PCBs, electronic components, drones and other ESD-sensitive equipment from electrostatic damage during transport, storage and assembly, making it the go-to packaging for electronics manufacturers.

  • Fire retardant PE foam is a polyethylene foam treated to meet the B2 fire-resistance classification (DIN 4102-1). It is required in construction, automotive interiors, public-area packaging and other applications where flammability standards apply. Available across our foam rolls, foam sheets and foam laminates ranges, in different thicknesses and densities.
